Timeline: Sarah Hornbeck’s Mental Illness and Substance Abuse History

  • 2008 – Begins weekly therapy with Rosalie McCabe, LCSW.
  • December 2011 – Arrested, along with her father, after they both physically attacked Jeff Reichert at a child custody exchange.
  • March 2018 – Arrested for DUI, assaulting civilians and an officer, and destruction of property.
  • August 2018 – Placed on two-year probation after guilty plea for March 2018 charges.
  • June 2019 – Grant reports Sarah passed out drunk at a hotel, left him and sibling alone.
  • July–December 2019 – Multiple missed and non-compliant Soberlink tests recorded.
  • January 6, 2020 – Sarah claims she stopped drinking entirely.
  • February 11, 2020 – Sarah ends required Soberlink tests, continues voluntarily.
  • August 23, 2021 – Court receives psychological evaluation request.
  • March 24, 2022 – Dr. Wolff completes Sarah’s psychological evaluation.
  • May 2022 – Helen Laird testifies to Sarah’s diagnosis: alcohol use disorder (in remission), anxiety, and personality pathologies.
  • May–July 2022 – Sarah completes 150+ clean Soberlink tests voluntarily.
  • September 2022 – Court orders Sarah to continue both substance use and mental health treatment.
  • October & December 2023 – Protective order petitions allege Sarah was drinking, falling asleep drunk, neglecting Grant’s therapy.
  • March 2024 – Court again orders Sarah to submit to substance abuse screening.
  • March 18, 2025 – Latest court order reaffirms mental health treatment but omits substance abuse requirement.
